Community Advisory Committee for Special Education (CAC)
The Community Advisory Committee (CAC) for special education is an advisory committee to the Humboldt Del Norte Superintendent Special Education Policy Council (SSEPC). The CAC encourages community involvement through parents and community agencies to affect the development, implementation, and review of the services and systems affecting students with disabilities.
Meetings are conducted via Zoom unless otherwise indicated. If you are interested in joining or getting more information about the CAC please contact the SELPA office at info@hdnselpa.org or call (707) 441-2051.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!
FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER, the State of the Art Conference is COMING TO CALIFORNIA and UC DAVIS IS THE HOST UNIVERSITY!
Please join us in Sacramento at the Downtown Sheraton for the State of the Art Conference Kick Off on Tuesday, October 27th at 2pm.
At 3pm, the Student Leadership Conference Attendees will VISIT UC DAVIS!
There will be four on-campus events:
- A Campus Tour
- Dance Party in the Dance Studio at the ARC
- Bowling at the Memorial Union
- Watch Crip Camp
At 5:30pm, there will be the FIRST IN CALIFORNIA INCLUSIVE COLLEGE FAIR on campus at the International Center! Over 40 colleges and universities from across the country who have inclusive college programs will be on campus to share the inside scoop about inclusive college.

BEYOND BEHAVIOR: RECOGNIZING BIOLOGICAL CONTRIBUTORS TO DISTRESS - California Start Redwoods Coast

The California Start Redwood Coast is pleased to present the Virtual Community Education Training Series for Fall/Winter 2026-2027. These free monthly trainings are designed for service providers, caregivers, or family members supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and mental health vulnerabilities.
Topics this season include:- Supporting Moments of Meaningful Engagement
- Supporting Emotional Expression and Regulation Through Accessible Strategies
- Beyond Behavior: Recognizing Biological Contributors to Distress
- Visual and Technology Supports for People with IDD
- Understanding Repetitive and Idiosyncratic Behavior in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities
- Understanding Depression in IDD
These practical, strengths-based trainings will provide participants with strategies to better understand, support, and promote well-being, communication, engagement, and quality of life for people with IDD.
